Jeff Dye backs @sostalksmoney over dead mom joke
He called the joke pretty low and defended the host anyway.
Jeff Dye has picked a side in the @sostalksmoney podcast blowup, and it is not the guest. Dye posted that the guest was trolling first, writing "Trolls hate being trolled" with a pearl clutching line attached. That is the same clip that earlier pulled in other comics.
What the fight is
The account laying out the sequence is Brian Allen, who posts as @allenanalysis. According to his post, @sostalksmoney allegedly joked about a guest's mother dying from brain cancer, saying "Your mom might have died from a headache." Allen says that when the host was confronted, he claimed he had been misunderstood, offered a conditional apology, and accused the visibly upset guest of being "triggered."
Your mom might have died from a headache.
That is the version going around. It is one account's summary of the exchange, not a transcript, so treat the details as Allen's telling.
Dye's actual position
Dye is not defending the joke. Replying to @LGL_Rooster, he said he would not personally have "gone there" because it is "pretty low." Then he pivoted straight to the guest, saying the guy who warned the host "You're gonna be in trouble" is, in Dye's words, the biggest troll alive.
So the read is split down the middle. Dye agrees the dead mother bit crossed a line he would not cross, and he still thinks the person on the receiving end of it had it coming because of how he handled the moment. Low joke, worse victim, roughly.
Why anyone cares
This is the part of a podcast pile on that usually decides which way it goes. Once the clip is out, the fight stops being about the joke and becomes about whether the offended party is sincere. Dye's two posts do both jobs at once, conceding the content and attacking the reaction, which lets him side with the host without having to say the joke was fine.
The host's side, per Allen, never landed on a clean apology either. A conditional one plus the word triggered is how these things keep burning for another week.
Trolls hate being trolled.
I wouldn’t personally have “gone there” as it’s pretty low
