Lauren Compton's First Date is ending, Dr. Drew guests

The YMH Studios dating show is wrapping, and the farewell seat went to the guy who did After Dark there for about five years.

First Date with Lauren Compton is ending. The second-to-last episode, posted by YMH Studios as "Why Do Women Move On So Fast? w/ Dr. Drew", hands the chair to Dr. Drew Pinsky, who spends a chunk of it talking with Compton about what it feels like when a show you like just stops.

Dr. Drew has been here before. He brought up Loveline ending, and the version he tells is not a slow fade. They were mapping out the next season when the call came in.

"We were planning the next season. We were already talking about how it was going to work, what was going to happen, and then got a call from the front office. We're not going forward."

He also mentioned being in production on a daytime talk show that went away just as fast, saying he was told "Yeah, Queen Latifah's got it." His reaction, by his telling, was one word.

He knows the building

Dr. Drew is not a drop-in guest here. He says he did After Dark at Your Mom's House for "like four or five years, something like that", and called it a blessing. These days he points people to his streaming show, Ask Dr. Drew, Tuesday and Thursday at 2 o'clock Pacific. He also says he got to interview Jay Bhattacharya and RFK Jr. back when, as he puts it, people were telling him he had to talk to them.

Compton almost never got the job

The best bit of the episode is how close First Date came to not happening at all. Compton says the email offering it landed in her inbox and she assumed it was a scam. "I just deleted the email," she says. She vented about it to Mike Eaton, who told her she might want to undelete that email and respond, because what if it was real.

The rest of the hour wanders where that show always wandered. Compton talks about her lifetime ban from Disneyland and the cleanup crew waiting at the Pirates of the Caribbean dock, which Dr. Drew says he thought about while riding it with his granddaughter. She also floats getting back into her Power Girl costume for skits as a mom who doubles as Power Girl.
