Luis Gomez ranks Big Jay Oakerson behind Louis and Attell
A fan question got a straight answer and a very short list.
Luis J. Gomez says Big Jay Oakerson is the funniest person on the planet.
The question came from @ryan_megan1031, posting as megan and ryan, who asked Gomez directly whether he agreed that Big Jay is currently the funniest comedian performing. Gomez did not hedge. He said he thinks Big Jay is the funniest person on the planet, then drew a line between that and the stage itself, where he placed Oakerson in the top three behind Louis and Attell.
That split is the interesting part. Funniest person alive and funniest person on a stage are two different jobs, and Gomez ranked them differently on purpose. Plenty of comics are best in the green room, in the car, on a podcast mic with no bit prepared. Gomez is saying Big Jay is the best in the room full stop, and still only third once the light goes on.
The list is two names long
Gomez gave last names only, Louis and Attell, and left it there. He offered no fourth name, no honorable mentions and no explanation of the criteria. For a guy who will argue about almost anything at length, it is a short answer.
It also lands as a compliment with a ceiling attached, which is roughly how comedians talk to each other. Calling someone the funniest person on the planet and then ranking them third is the kind of praise that comes with a small dent in it, and it is the sort of thing a fan question tends to shake loose faster than a podcast segment would.
No reply from Oakerson in the posts here, and no follow up from Gomez laying out the rest of the list.
