Luis Gomez calls out trolls who list Christian in their bio
Jeff Dye, separately, says the aggressive replies show up whenever he posts anything Christian.
Luis J. Gomez spent a chunk of his timeline arguing about Christians, and he says he never touched Jesus. It started when Shaq (@shaqsgardening) told him not to attack Jesus because one commenter said something offensive, adding that Jesus Christ saves. Gomez answered that he is making a much smaller point than that.
His version, posted plainly, is that when somebody sends him something shitty and bigoted, he clicks the profile and it very often says Christian. He also noted that he grew up in the church before becoming an atheist, and that the behavior he is describing is not Christ like. That is the whole argument. It did not stop the replies.
The kid line
Nicholas Kramas (@nkramas) went with the obvious counter, that a comedian who says shitty things about people for a living is now offended by someone saying something shitty to him. Gomez drew the line where comics usually draw it. He makes jokes, and he says Kramas knows the difference between making jokes and saying shitty things about someone's kid. "Don't pretend to be stupid" was the closer.
Then Gomez posted a rule he lives by online, that he would not say something to someone on social media he is not willing to say to them in real life. Glen Pearson (@iamstillmanic) called that version of honor a bit of a lie, and asked whether Gomez would really tell Stalin to his face that he is a piece of shit. Gomez's full reply was four words.
Pearson then clarified he was being sarcastic, which Gomez quoted back with the line in quotation marks. So nobody won, which is roughly the standard outcome for a day of this.
Jeff Dye, same nerve, other side
In a completely separate post, Jeff Dye said every time he posts anything remotely Christian online, people get aggressive about it. He added that scripture says believers will be mocked for their faith but should not be ashamed. He is not replying to Gomez, and Gomez is not replying to him.
That is what makes the pair worth reading together. Gomez says the ugliest messages in his mentions come from accounts that identify as Christian. Dye says the ugliest messages in his mentions arrive the moment he identifies as Christian. Both of them are describing the same reply section from opposite chairs, and both of them think the problem is everyone else.
I’m not attacking Jesus. I’m making the point that very often when somebody says something shitty and bigoted to me, I click on their profile and they claim to be Christian.
