Luis J. Gomez says he can finally talk about the Skankfest lawsuit
The details are being held for Monday's episode, and he has not named anyone.
Luis J. Gomez says the gag order, whatever shape it took, is off.
In a post to his account, @luisjgomez wrote that he can finally talk about the Skankfest lawsuit, and told people to tune in to Real Ass Podcast on Monday. That is the whole announcement. No names, no numbers, no description of what the suit is about or who filed it.
What is actually new here
The new part is the timing. Gomez had earlier said his lawyers had told him not to discuss a lawsuit, which is the kind of thing a comedian with three podcasts says through clenched teeth. Now he is saying he can talk, and he has picked the venue and the day. Monday, Real Ass Podcast.
Worth being precise about what he did and did not say. He did not say the lawsuit is over. He did not say he won, or settled, or that anyone apologized. He said he can talk about it. Those are different things, and the post does not tell you which one applies.
Why the venue matters
Saving it for Monday rather than typing it out is a choice. A post can be screenshotted and read back to you in a deposition. A two hour podcast lets him set the whole thing up his own way, at his own pace, with his cohosts in the room to push back or egg him on. Comedians who have been sitting on a legal story tend to want the room, not the character limit.
It also means anyone who wants the actual story has to show up for the episode, which is not an accident.
Until then, this is a one line tease with a date attached. Skankfest is Gomez's festival, so a lawsuit with Skankfest in the name is unlikely to be a small side matter for him. But the sourcing on everything else, who, what, how much, is currently zero, and guessing is how you end up wrong in public.
Monday, then.
I can finally talk about the Skankfest lawsuit. Tune in to real ass podcast Monday!
