Luis J. Gomez explains when GaS Digital drops a show
A fan asked about Mike Cannon's Irish Goodbye story, and Gomez laid out the network math.
A fan account called @chinaistoblame asked Luis J. Gomez to square a story Mike Cannon told on Fart Carnival with how Gomez says GaS Digital works. Per the fan, Cannon said on the show that GaS wanted Irish Goodbye off the network, which the fan called antithetical to Gomez's line that any show can continue regardless of views.
Gomez answered in public. He said he does not remember exactly why they left and believes the hosts decided to stop doing the show together. Then he corrected the premise. Every show the network produces costs money until it hits a certain threshold, he said, and Irish Goodbye was liked by subscribers, so it stayed. A show that is not tracking well and is not pulling views would definitely get dropped.
That is about as plain as network math gets said out loud by the guy running it. Shows subscribers like survive. Shows they ignore do not. The network eats the cost in the middle while a show tries to get there.
What else GaS has up this week
The Berg half hour is the headline release. GaS Digital announced Aaron Berg's Pro's and Con's of TRT, a new entry in its GaS 30 half hour series, debuting Sept 8th at 7pm EST, and Gomez plugged it himself with a post saying Berg's half hour drops Tuesday night. We covered that announcement earlier.
Legion of Skanks stacked two more posts on top of it. The Legion of Skanks End of Summer Games put Tristan Bowling and Colum Tyrrell head to head at 8PM E, on GaS Digital only, with a promo code LOS for discounted full access. The show also pushed a clip from episode 416 with Ari Shaffir about Milo Yiannopoulos calling ICE on his neighbor in 2019.
So the week reads like a network flexing its own pipeline. A new special, a live event, a clip built to sell subscriptions, and the boss answering a subscriber question about why a show left, all in the same stretch. The Berg special is the thing to watch. The Gomez reply is the thing to read if you want to know which podcasts on that roster are safe.
