Adam Ray lands a Netflix show with Adam DeVine
No title, no date, just a coming soon and a very loud three fire emojis.
Adam Ray says he has a new show at Netflix, and he is bringing Adam DeVine with him. He announced it by tagging Netflix and calling DeVine a comedy star, with three fire emojis doing the rest of the press release. We covered the first word of it earlier.
NEW “Adam Ray Show” on @netflix COMING SOON with comedy star @ADAMDEVINE
What he actually said
The post calls it a new "Adam Ray Show" on Netflix, coming soon. That is the whole brief. No premiere date, no format, no episode count, no word on whether DeVine is a co-host, a guest or something else. Ray has not posted any of that, so anyone telling you what the show is right now is guessing.
What we do know is the pairing, and the pairing is the news. Ray and DeVine on the same Netflix project is the kind of thing that usually arrives with a trailer and a date, and this arrived with neither. The announcement came first and the details did not.
Theo Von's hour is live
The other Netflix comedy item has an actual date attached. Theo Von's special I'm Doing Fine premiered October 20 on Netflix, as flagged on r/TheoVon, which also pointed at the trailer and the subtitle options already sitting on the title page. We had the title and the date earlier.
So the week gives you one special you can press play on and one show you can only wait for. Von's hour is up. Ray's thing is a tweet with a coming soon on it.
The real story is how little a Netflix announcement needs to be these days. A name, a tag, a collaborator and three fire emojis and that counts as the reveal. Everything else, the title, the shape, the when, comes later and comes from Netflix, not from the comedian who got to post first. Until then, Ray has the headline and Von has the hour.
