Mark Normand calls Schindler's List a little too campy
Two posts, ten words total, and no setup anywhere in sight.
Mark Normand posted a joke about Schindler's List with no thread, no context and no follow up. The whole thing is one sentence. It calls Steven Spielberg's Holocaust film good, then adds a note about its camp value, which is the sort of review nobody has ever filed about that movie.
That is the point. Normand's account runs on the shortest possible post aimed at the least appropriate subject available, and the joke works because there is nothing around it to soften the landing. No caption. No wink. Just the sentence sitting there collecting replies from people deciding whether to be mad.
Then he did it again
Later the same day he posted two words, "Doggy Style", with nothing attached. Same trick, different target, roughly the same amount of effort. Read on its own it is barely a joke. Read as the second post of the day from a man committed to saying the least he possibly can, it lands.
The real story
This is just Normand having a good day at his own format, and it is worth noticing how consistent that format is. Earlier in the week he answered the Lindsay Clancy jury news with a two word pun, and before that he put up two more one liners that were each a single line and out. No threads. No explainers. No replies to the people getting upset.
Plenty of comics use Twitter as a place to argue, to promote dates, to post through whatever is happening to them. Normand uses it as a notebook for the bit he could not fit anywhere else, and he treats every post like there is a word limit far below the actual one.
Obviously nobody needs to file a correction on Spielberg. It is a joke, delivered in the style of a man who has decided that setups are somebody else's job. The Schindler's List line is the one people are quoting. The dog one is the one that proves it was a method and not an accident.
